Dean McCarthy
“Hi, I'm Dean. I'm a versatile photographer at PhotosByJen, photographing family celebrations and events in Dublin, including Communions, christenings, birthdays and family gatherings. I also lead our pet and seasonal studio photography.
I let each pet set the pace, giving them time to settle in, with plenty of breaks, play and encouragement along the way. There's no pressure for them to behave a certain way.”
Kind words from past clients
“I loved every minute of the photoshoot with Dean. My two Huskies are a handful, I actually thought they might be nervous and hard to get good photo of, but Dean had them eating out of his hand (literally). I’m so happy with the photos we got. You can expect me back if they have a litter of puppies!”
“We absolutely LOVE the shots of Marshal and Stanley. Dean was great from start to finish. Thanks again.”
“We brought the kids and Rebel in for a studio shoot with Dean, and honestly, we had such a laugh. Dean made everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera, and the squeaker he had hidden in his hand had the kids in stitches! The photo of the kids and Rebel with the bubbles is my screensaver now. I smile every time I look at it. I’m so glad we have that lovely moment captured.”
“We had such a lovely experience bringing Luna in for her studio shoot. Dean was so patient and gave her plenty of time to explore, settle in and get used to everything. There was absolutely no pressure for her to sit perfectly still or strike the ‘perfect’ pose, which made the whole session feel relaxed and enjoyable for all of us. Luna could just be herself, and we could enjoy watching her little personality come through. We’re honestly blown away by the result! The photographs capture Luna so beautifully, and we’ll treasure them for years to come. We’d happily recommend Dean to anyone thinking about a photoshoot for their pet.”

How much does a Pet photo shoot cost?
A Pet Photography shoot with Dean includes the shoot (up to 1 hour) plus a signed and mounted 10×8″ print.
Of course, additional images in digital or print format can also be purchased after your shoot from your online viewing gallery.
Where do the shoots take place?

Wherever your pet is most comfortable! Please note, for shoot locations outside of Dublin, there may be an additional travel fee.
How do I receive my photos?
Approx 1 week after your shoot, your photos will be edited and made available to view on your own private online gallery. From this gallery, you can choose the image you would like as your 10×8″ print. Additional images can also be purchased in digital format or as mounted gift prints.
Printed images will be available to collect from the PHOTOSBYJEN studio approx 1-2 weeks from the time of order. Any digital images purchased will be sent to you in high resolution format via a download link.
I have a gift voucher for PhotosbyJen, can I use this towards a pet photography shoot?
Sure! You can use your gift voucher to book in for a shoot through the booking system. If the overall value of your gift voucher is more than the shoot fee, any remaining balance can be used towards additional photos ordered later.
Can myself or my family be in the photos?
My main aim of a Pet Photography shoot is to capture gorgeous portraits of your furry buddy! But if you or your family would like to get into some of the photos during the shoot, that’s not a problem at all!
Do I get digital copies of all the photos taken?
I’m afraid digital images aren’t included in the cost of the shoot, but can be purchased separately afterwards.
My dog is sometimes nervous or may misbehave. Is he/she suitable for a photoshoot?
Absolutely, yes! Please don’t worry about this at all, you are not alone, and it’s completely normal. I have lots of experience working with dogs of all temperaments, from the most enthusiastic to the most shy or nervous.
My process is always patient and positive. We’ll start with a few relaxed moments to let your dog get comfortable with the location, me, and the equipment. We move at their pace. With a calm environment, plenty of positive reinforcement, (& a pocket full of treats!!) we’ll capture beautiful images that reflect their unique personality. Your only job is to relax and trust the process!
Does my adult dog need to be vaccinated?
Yes, please! For the safety and well-being of all the pets I photograph, all client dogs must be fully up-to-date on their core vaccinations. I would also recommend that they have the kennel cough vaccine also.
I have booked my shoot for an outdoor location, but the weather isn’t looking great. What should I do?
Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Weather can be unpredictable, but I always have a Plan B. As the date of your shoot approaches, I’ll keep a close eye on the weather forecast.
If the forecast calls for heavy rain, storms, or conditions that would make your dog uncomfortable, we have two excellent alternatives:
Reschedule: I can easily transfer your booking to a new date. My priority is getting the best possible portraits of your pet, and sometimes that means waiting for better light/weather conditions.
Move Indoors: We can utilise the PHOTOSBYJEN studio in Ballymount as a convenient backup. This allows us to keep your original date and still capture beautiful images, regardless of the weather.
If a weather change looks likely, I will get in touch 48 hours before your session, and we can make a final decision together.
I can’t make original booking date/time. Can I reschedule?
We get it, things come up! I always try to be flexible when possible.
You can reschedule your appointment up to 72 hours prior to your session time. If you notify me within this window, your booking fee will be happily moved to your new date.
To be fair to all clients and due to the time reserved, rescheduling or cancelling with less than 72 hours' notice will result in the loss of your booking fee.
